Washd Control Newsletter – Week 9

Dear Customer,

It has been a while since you last heard from us, and now that the cold and beautiful season is coming to an end, we felt it was the perfect time to share some exciting news with you.

Let’s start with the biggest news first. On February 1st, we welcomed a new CEO at Avilo AS. Her name is Liliana Denisé Norén, and she has now been working with us for almost a month. It has been a month full of learning, excitement, and training. Some of you have already met Liliana, and for those who haven’t, you will likely see her in the coming weeks as she prioritizes attending meetings with you.

Since our last update, we have expanded our presence across Norway and established strong new relationships with customers in Østfold and Innlandet.

Through collaboration with you, we have identified challenges in the laundry industry that we weren’t previously aware of—and for which no immediate solutions existed. One of the biggest challenges we encountered is space constraints, particularly on the clean side where textiles are distributed. This lack of space has led to scanners registering more textiles than those actually placed on the trolley in front of the antenna, which in turn has required us to lower the antenna strength. However, when the antenna strength was adjusted down, it sometimes became too weak to detect all the textiles on the trolley.

Now, in collaboration with a Norwegian company, we have developed and tested a new solution to this challenge, and we are proud to present (drum roll):

Washd Scanning Cage!

The Washd Scanning Cage is a metal enclosure where the trolley with textiles is placed inside. You close the door, press start, wait about a minute, press stop, and finally link the textiles to the correct customer—just as before. Everything looks the same, but this scanning cage allows you to operate the antennas at full strength at all times. Note that there must be at least 30 cm of space between the scanning cage and other textiles. The cage itself is only slightly larger than a trolley, so it doesn’t take up much additional space.

If you’d like more information about our new scanning cage, you can contact us at +47 33 50 10 40 or via post@avilo.no. All existing customers will receive a special price on this product.

We have also continued developing our solution for resident sorting. Previously, we offered a sorting table where employees would drag a textile over a table-mounted scanner. When the scanner read the textile’s chip, a screen displayed the corresponding shelf or basket where the textile should be placed. However, customer feedback revealed that some VTA (sheltered workshop) employees could not read or understand the information displayed on the sorting screen.

To address this, we worked with a valued customer to develop a sorting shelf that lights up where the textile should be placed. This light is sensor-activated, meaning that when an employee places the textile in the correct spot, the sensor is triggered, and the system is ready for the next textile.

Additional Updates

  • In Washd Order Portal, customers can now reset their passwords.
  • Order printouts from the Order Portal are now sorted alphabetically and by size in the correct order.
  • We have further improved the integration between Washd and PowerOffice. A requested feature now allows department information from a Washd customer to be included in invoices sent via PowerOffice. This is particularly useful for organizations like nursing homes with multiple departments. Now, department names and numbers can be entered on the customer profile in Washd, and this information will appear in the "Order Number" field in PowerOffice invoices—making it easy for recipients to identify which department the invoice pertains to.
  • Soon, we will remove the ability to select "To Wash" and "To Dry" on both mounted and handheld scanners. These options are rarely used and have proven to be an unnecessary step in the workflow.

Smaller Fixes & Improvements

Here are some additional improvements that have been made:
  • Automatic order printing: All orders will now be printed in batches (e.g., at the end of the day) rather than continuously throughout the day. Laundries that want to use this feature should contact us to ensure proper setup.
  • A bug fix for printing the last delivery from the handheld scanner.
  • Label printers on sorting tables now print a label once a sorting field is completed. The label includes information about the resident, the customer/location, and the type of textiles sorted.
  • All textiles that do not have "Delivered" status can now be sorted at the sorting table.
  • Once a sorting field is fully processed, all textiles in that field will automatically be marked as "Delivered."
  • The buttons and statuses "To Dry" and "To Wash" will be removed from scanners as they were never used and only caused confusion.
  • When distributing textiles with a mounted scanner, textiles that have already been delivered will be ignored and no longer appear in the tables.
  • A new color-printing option for order printers allows orders to be printed with colored backgrounds.

If you have any questions or would like more information about these updates, feel free to reach out to us!

Best regards,
The Washd Team
