From Intern to Mentor: Bozhidar’s Journey at avilo
Hi Bozhidar, how are you?
Hello, I am fine. Everything is running smoothly and under control
Can you please tell us a bit about yourself and your role in avilo?
Sure! I’m the Country Manager and Embedded Systems Development Team Lead at avilo. I manage teams and projects, represent the company in my country, and actively explore new business opportunities for the company, like new potential clients, collaborations with other companies, partnerships, etc. Alongside these responsibilities, I also get involved in development work when needed, ensuring that everything runs smoothly on both strategic and technical fronts.
You mentioned mentoring interns who are now your colleagues. What do you enjoy most about mentoring and helping others grow in their careers?
I enjoy seeing someone learn passionately and respecting that. Early in my career, during my internships, I would bombard my mentors with questions, so I’m always happy to see someone doing the same. It shows they have a passion for learning new things. Of course, the most rewarding part is seeing the results when, as a team, my colleagues and I succeed together.
Your passion for learning and teamwork really shines through. What advice would you give to someone starting in their career, especially in tech?
Thank you. I would recommend that anyone find a niche in their field and focus fully on it. I’m not referring to a specific job position but rather to choosing a technology that suits you best and concentrating on that. For example, fewer and fewer people are working with automated web scraping, even as the demand for data continues to grow. Most importantly, examine the market's needs for that specific niche, because you don’t want to invest a lot of time learning something that won’t pay off.
That’s excellent advice! Now can you tell me when you’re not busy leading projects and mentoring your team, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I play piano and guitar, listen to music, hike, travel, and enjoy walking around the city. I also love to cook.
That’s awesome! Do you have a favorite place you’ve traveled to, or is there somewhere you’re dreaming of visiting next?
I have a few favorite places. Serbia is my favorite for the cuisine and its welcoming soul, Cyprus for its beautiful nature and beaches and Poland for no reason, I just love it.
I want to visit Japan in the future because of its unique culture and cuisine.
And lastly. What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned from your experiences at avilo so far?
I learned a lot at avilo, especially the value of more relaxed and flexible work environment. This type of environment results with more creative and stable work. Also, the more experienced people in the company have always been available for me, so I was constantly upgrading my technical and business knowledge.
